Exhibit Registration and Registering for Classes

Registration for the exhibit will only be $15.00. A single form has been created so you can register for the exhibit, select the events you wish to attend and register for classes at the same time. To print the form you will need Adobe reader. Click here to get the form so you can print it. Send the registration form to Susquehanns Chapter 128, 60 McMaster Street, Owego, New York 13827-1321.

Register your rug

You will need to pre-register your rug in order to have it displayed at the National Exhibit. ALL RUGS MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED. A form has been created so you can easily do that. Click here to get the form so it can be printed. These forms need to be sent to Karen Edwards, PO Box 107, 309 Manley Road, Norwich, New York 13815. You can reach her at 607-336-1191 or click here to E-mail her.

All hooked pieces must be at the Exhibit before Noon on Thursday, October 23, 2008. This will allow time for the exhibit to be set-up before visitors arrive. If necessary, your pieces can be mailed by UPS. Instructions are on the Rug Registration form.

The committee picks up return shipping costs. Make sure that all rugs have a label securely sewn onto the back side and that your name is clearly readable on it.

Mailing your rug to the Exhibit

Use a sturdy box and line it with a plastic bag just in case it should become damp during shipping. Place a piece of cardboard on top of the rugs under the tape line where the 2 box lid sections come together. Inside the box place an envelope, your name printed clearly on the front, which contains copies of the rug registration forms that include your return address (No PO Boxes) and how much insurance you want placed on the return package. Securely tape the box lids on all sides. Send it by UPS with added insurance if the rug value is over their basic coverage. Mail the box to Karen Edwards to arrive no later than October 20th. If your box arrives after that date, your rug won't be in the show!

Rugs delivered and mailed back

When delivering your rugs bring the following items: a sturdy box large enough to hold all the rugs without bulging, which has been deconstructed and flattened; a large envelope (your name printed clearly on the front) taped to the outside of the box, into which you have placed a plastic bag large enough to hold the rugs and a sheet containing your return address (No PO Boxes) and the insurance value of each rug.

Volunteer to be a Demonstrator, Hostess or Docent

If you would like to help with the education of rug hooking to the public, please volunteer for the Exhibit. We need people to demonstrate the art of rug hooking as well as individuals to act as Docents and Hostesses. A form has been created to allow you to select the times and days you will be available.

To print the form you will need Adobe reader. Click here to get the form for printing. Send the registration form to Marleta Anderson, 329 Greenwood Road, Newark Valley, New York 13811. You can reach her at 607-642-8432 or click here to E-mail her. Please send the form by September 1, 2008 to secure your choices.

General Information

The 2008 Pearl K. McGown National Exhibit will be held in Owego, New York, and is sponsored by Susquehanna Chapter 128. Welcome to our new website; over the next several months, we will be adding content in preparation for the 2008 Exhibit.

The apple was chosen as our challenge as it is one of the symbols representing the Southern Tier and, of course, the "Big Apple."

We look forward to seeing all the interpretations of the "Apple" pictured to the left.

Please stay tuned for more info on the Challenge and the other activities we are planning for the 2008 Exhibit.

ABOUT OWEGO

Owego was founded in 1787 and was once one of the larger cities outside of NYC. The Southern Tier is the birthplace of Rod Serling, John D. Rockefeller and Richard Deacon. The Southern Tier can also call itself the home of IBM. The Kirby Community Band makes its home in Nichols and is one of the oldest community bands east of the Mississippi.

Owego has many fine dining spots including the Jailhouse Restaurant, which was once the local jail, and the Treadway Inn, location of the Exhibit.

The Southern Tier is often called the "Gateway to the Finger Lakes" and its Wine Country. Carousels are also a big part of culture in the region, claiming to be the Carousel Capital of the World.
